We need not argue that we have a right brain and a left brain carefully wrapped and placed on top of our necks. We need not argue that some people tend to function more out of one brainular hemisphere than the other. This is one element that makes us humans so uniquely different from one another. Would you like to take a fun little test to see which hemisphere you tend to use more frequently? Click on the image above and you'll be instantly transported to the Art Institute of Vancouver's web page where you'll find their creativity test. (btw, if you do a Google search on "right brain vs left brain," you'll get many web pages offering similar tests. The results are only a guide, not Gospel.)
The left brain specializes in analytical thought, structure, time sequences, logic, mathematics, rationality and deductive reasoning. It's also responsible for details, knowledge, planning, goals, productivity, words, science, technology, and the like. You get the picture (oh, that would be using your right brain!!)
On the flip side, the right brain specializes in the softer aspects and is responsible for intuition, feelings, sensitivity, emotions, creativity, color, visualizing, daydreaming and spatial awareness. The right brainular hemisphere is also popular for spontaneity, risk taking, variety, impulsiveness, relationships, play and sports, motor skills, humor and the like (to read more about the right and left brain traits, snoop around on the web page link for the test, above).
I know as you read this you see that you have traits from both sides, which is good. That means you have a complete brain. But, you may have a tendency to use one hemisphere more than the other. You may want to develop one hemisphere a little better too.
Several friends and I took the above mentioned test and had fun talking about the results. We found that overall, it's pretty darn accurate, describing us. I'm a little more in touch with my right brain than left, but pretty balanced. One very logical friend of mine hangs out more in his left brain. No surprises there. But it was encouraging for him to see that he has creative abilities waiting to be uncovered in his right brain too.
Because we are all created in God's image, we have His creative power living in our right brain. How often to you tap into it? What creative endeavors are you working on?
It's awesome that God gave us both hemispheres jam packed with all the things He knows we need in order to work and play in this world. Never forget, no matter if we gravitate towards left brain living or right brain living, we are equally valued in His eyes and loved more than we could imagine.
If God had a fridge, your photo would be hanging on it.
